Composite Bat Rules for Recreation & Travel Baseball for the MTBA
As a result of the October 13, 2011 Approved Bats Memo from Babe Ruth League Inc., the MTBA will be administering the following rules to Recreation and Travel Baseball for the 2012 season:

Tee-Ball through Majors (ages 4-12)
- Composite barrel bats will not be allowed in any Recreation Division Tee-Ball through Majors (ages 4-12)
- Composite barrel bats may be used by any MTBA Travel team 12U or younger provided that they meet the requirements set out by Babe Ruth League, Inc. The requirements state that the bat may not exceed 33" in length, and the barrel may not exceed 2 ¼” in diameter. Only 2 ¼” barrel non-wood bats marked BPF 1.15 will be allowed. Wood 2 ¼” barrel bats are allowed.
Pony Division (ages 13-15)
Composite barrel bats will be allowed in Recreation Pony Division play as well as 13U and older Travel Baseball provided that the bat meets the specifications for approved bats for 2012 by Babe Ruth League Inc. The bat may not exceed 34” in length, and the bat barrel may not exceed 2 5/8” in diameter. All aluminum/alloy barrel bats and all composite handle (only) aluminum/alloy barrels are allowed. Only composite barrel bats certified and marked BBCOR .50 will be allowed. Wood barrel bats conforming to the specifications of Official Baseball Rule 1.10 are allowed.

**Please note that as of this time (11/15/11), Little League has not removed the composite barrel bat moratorium for ages 4-12. Travel & AAU managers should review the rules for any leagues or tournaments that they are participating in to make sure that they know the bat rules for that specific league or tournament. The Babe Ruth rules would apply to any Cal Ripken or Babe Ruth Tournament.**
